David Gunion is Digital Lead at Sunderland GP Alliance (SGPA), where he leads digital transformation programmes that support general practice, improve patient access and enable more efficient ways of working across primary care. Working in partnership with GP practices, NHS organisations and technology providers, he has developed and delivered innovative digital solutions that reduce administrative burden while enhancing patient experience. His work has included the creation of Sunderland's Health and Wellness Hub, a city-wide digital front door with more than 1.5 million visits, alongside the development and expansion of Clinical Support Information systems that provide trusted decision-support tools for thousands of healthcare professionals across the region.



With extensive experience in primary care transformation and digital innovation, David is passionate about using technology to deliver practical improvements for patients and staff. He champions a "Better Access, Less Admin, More Care" approach, focusing on collaboration, continuous improvement and scalable solutions that support the future of neighbourhood healthcare. Through initiatives such as the Sunderland Digital Steering Group, he has helped position Sunderland as a leading environment for digital innovation, supporting the adoption of emerging technologies, sharing best practice and strengthening the foundations for sustainable, patient-centred care.
