Christopher Dowrick is Emeritus Professor in the University of Liverpool UK and Professorial Research Fellow in the University of Melbourne Australia. He is past Chair of the World Organisation of Family Doctors (WONCA) working party for mental health and provides expert advice to WHO including its mhGAP programme. His research explores interface between physical and mental health problems in primary care, with focus on depression and unexplained physical symptoms. He has developed mental health care for marginalised communities, including asylum seekers and refugees, and leads international educational initiatives for family doctors in primary mental health care. He is exploring ways in which the creative arts can reduce emotional distress. He has published eight books and more than 300 research papers.
