Dr Kannan Muthuvairavan is a GP and the Clinical Respiratory Lead for Swansea Bay University Health Board. He also serves as Deputy Group Medical Director for Primary, Community and Therapies.

He has a longstanding interest in respiratory medicine and in transforming the way respiratory disease is diagnosed and managed within primary and community care. He has led the development of innovative services including community spirometry and COPD case-finding pathways, and is currently developing an integrated Breathlessness Hub aimed at providing earlier, streamlined investigation and diagnosis for patients presenting with persistent breathlessness.

His wider work focuses on improving the interface between primary, community and secondary care, with particular emphasis on COPD, asthma, respiratory diagnostics, admission avoidance and delivering more specialist care closer to patients’ homes.
