Anna leads strategy and policy for fitness to practise at the GMC and oversees the Fitness to Practise Blueprint for Change which sets out the current and future plans for changes to legislation, rules, guidance and procedures.

Anna previously qualified and practised as a solicitor before moving into policy. She has an extensive background working in legal and regulatory policy, previously at the Law Society prior to joining the GMC.

Since joining the GMC in 2008 Anna has led a programme of fundamental reform to the GMC’s fitness to practise procedures, significantly reducing the impact of GMC investigations on those involved.

She led the GMC’s Supporting Vulnerable Doctors Programme to deliver widescale change to the fitness to practise process to deliver the recommendations of the independent review by Professor Louis Appleby. She is currently leading the Fair Employer Referrals Programme to deliver the GMC’s target to eliminate disproportionate employer referrals of ethnic minority and overseas qualified doctors by 2026.

Anna is also currently working on Legislative Reform of healthcare regulation which aims to streamline GMC processes to deliver a model of regulation that is flexible and adaptable to the needs of the modern medical workforce.
