Speaker Bio
Catherine Williams is a Diabetes Specialist Nurse at Brownlow Health with over 30 years of nursing experience across acute and specialist services. After qualifying as a Registered Nurse in 1995, she developed an early passion for diabetes care while working on a dedicated diabetes ward, progressing to Ward Manager before returning to her specialist interest in 2018 as a Diabetes Nurse Educator.
Catherine now provides specialist diabetes care within primary care, supporting a diverse and often highly complex patient population. She has a particular interest in reducing health inequalities and improving diabetes outcomes for people who are frequently underserved by traditional healthcare services. Her work includes establishing a diabetes clinic for asylum seekers and supporting people living with both diabetes and substance misuse.
A passionate educator, Catherine's strengths lie in patient empowerment, self-management education, and engaging individuals who may experience barriers to accessing care. She brings both professional expertise and personal insight to her practice, having received a diagnosis of ADHD later in life, an experience that has further shaped her commitment to person-centred care.
Catherine recently joined a Diabetes UK organisational committee and has submitted poster presentations to both Diabetes UK and the Primary Care Diabetes Society. Outside of work, she enjoys travelling and skiing.
