Dr Matt Sawyer is Senior Sustainability Analyst at the Centre for Sustainable Healthcare, focussing on improving human and planetary health. Originally trained as a GP, he spent nearly 20 years in clinical practice in the North East of England after qualifying in 1997 and holds an MSc with Distinction in Corporate Sustainability and Environmental Management. His work focuses on helping healthcare systems understand and reduce their carbon footprint, supporting delivery of the NHS net zero ambition through practical roadmaps and action plans. He has developed tools to measure non-clinical emissions in general practice, co-authored Environmentally Sustainable Primary Care, assessed carbon footprints of products, processes, pathways and organisation, and produced a decarbonisation guide covering energy, estates, transport, procurement, and supply chains.
