Jonathan has been a practising community pharmacist for over 25 years and is an experienced independent prescriber, pioneering IP-led pharmacy first services involving the assessment and treatment of common clinical conditions over the past 10 years. He is a Designated Prescribing Practitioner, mentor and trainer for pharmacists undertaking independent prescriber qualifications, and runs an NHS teach and treat clinic. He contributes to the IP course at the University of Strathclyde, where he is also a postgraduate research student undertaking work looking at the training and development needs of pharmacy support staff. He has served two terms of office as chair of the Scottish Pharmacy Board of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society and continues to contribute to the work of the now Royal College of Pharmacy on its Scottish Pharmacy Advisory Council. He was designated a fellow of the Royal College in 2017 and received its Charter Award in 2022. He was awarded an MBE for services to healthcare in the Queens birthday honours list in 2018.
