Speaker Bio
David Vaughan Thomas is a fourth-generation community pharmacist and the Managing Director of Thomas Group (Newport) Ltd, overseeing LT Chemist and Lliswerry Pharmacy in Newport. With more than three decades of frontline and strategic experience, he has played a significant role in advancing community pharmacy practice and medicines optimisation across Wales.
In 2025, David was elected National Pharmacy Association (NPA) Board Member for Wales, representing independent community pharmacies at a national level and contributing to sector-wide policy development and advocacy.
David has held a number of influential leadership and advisory positions within NHS Wales and the wider professional landscape. He has served as a Committee Member of the Aneurin Bevan University Health Board Medicines & Therapeutics Committee since 2015, helping to ensure the safe, effective, and equitable use of medicines across Gwent. He previously held the role of Newport East NCN Pharmacy Lead, strengthening local primary care collaboration between community pharmacy and general practice.
His earlier roles includes seven years on the Welsh Pharmaceutical Committee, during which he served first as a Board Member and later as Chairman, providing statutory professional advice to Welsh Ministers and Government officials. He also served as Vice Chairman of the Newport Local Health Board, contributing to the commissioning and development of healthcare services for the local population. David has additionally represented the profession through Community Pharmacy Wales (South East) and has wider governance experience as a former Board Member of Squash Wales.
Across his career, David has been a strong advocate for the independent community pharmacy sector and for strengthening integrated primary care services. He brings extensive operational insight, policy expertise, and a long-standing commitment to improving patient outcomes through collaborative, community-based healthcare.
