Session Title

Surviving NHS primary care contracts: Where are we now and what next?
Description

Community pharmacy and general practice may not always see eye to eye - but both increasingly agree they are not getting a fair deal from their respective contracts.

With a new Community Pharmacy deal imminent and GPs taking collective action over the imposed 2026/27 GP contract, this session will explore whether current contracts support or hinder sustainable, patient-centred care.

As the Government pushes a “left shift” into neighbourhood care through the 10 Year Health Plan, primary care is being asked to do more with fewer resources and rising demand. But do current contractual frameworks enable integration or reinforce silos through separate funding and incentives?

Bringing together perspectives from national leaders and grassroots GPs and community pharmacists, the session will explore how national contracts are impacting the resilience, capacity and resource needed to remain in the business of delivering high-quality patient care.

The session will ask whether contracts are driving fragmentation and financial strain, and whether incremental reform is enough - or a more radical overhaul is needed to secure the future of primary care.
