Richard is a Consultant Respiratory Physician specialising in interstitial lung disease (ILD) at the Royal Brompton Hospital, London. He is an Adjunct Senior Lecturer at King’s College London, where he leads a research programme focused on understanding the earliest stages of pulmonary fibrosis.

Richard graduated with Distinction from Imperial College London in 2011, having completed an intercalated BSc in Respiratory Sciences with First-Class Honours. Following postgraduate medical training in London and achieving MRCP(UK) in 2014, he specialised in respiratory medicine at St Mary’s Hospital, Charing Cross Hospital and the Royal Brompton Hospital.

Alongside his clinical training, Richard developed extensive research experience through NIHR Academic Clinical Fellowship and Clinical Lectureship awards. In 2017, he was awarded an Imperial College Clinician-Investigator Scholarship and subsequently completed a PhD at the National Heart and Lung Institute. His doctoral research explored interactions between airway epithelial cells and their microenvironment in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). He also holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Genomic Medicine.

Richard’s clinical and research interests centre on the early recognition of ILD and translating insights into the earliest stages of disease into better diagnostic and therapeutic approaches for patients with pulmonary fibrosis. His research group combines studies of patient samples with advanced molecular and cellular approaches to identify biomarkers that could support earlier diagnosis and risk stratification, while also seeking new therapeutic targets that may allow treatment before permanent lung damage develops.
